Trauma

What is trauma?  We find it common that many folks think it is a result of events like a major car accident, domestic violence, or a death, for examples.  They aren't wrong, those events can cause trauma.  However trauma can be any event that has had a profound and lasting negative impact on a person's body, mind or spirit.  The event may have happened a month ago, or 30 years ago.  We invite you to read on, to learn more.

Understanding Trauma

Trauma can happen on an individual level, family and friends level, community level, national level and worldwide.  Furthermore, it is important to understand how these different levels can interact, and impact, a person's trauma.  For example, a person was harmed (individual level). While this may be traumatic enough, what does the support look like in the other levels?  Are the messages from the other levels something like, "you shouldn't have been there, that was a long time ago, what were you doing that caused this?"  All of this can impact how a person feels about their trauma, and being empowered to seek help.
